Transitional Medical Assistance Program FAQ's

The Transitional Medical Assistance Program (TMA) provides continued medical coverage for certain families who become ineligible for medical assistance because of increased earnings or child support. TMA coverage may be provided at no cost for six months, and may continue for a maximum of 12 months for those who lose eligibility due to increased earnings.

Families who lose eligibility because of child or spousal support payments may receive TMA coverage at no cost for four months.

Transitional Medical Assistance Eligibility

Families must meet the following TMA requirements:

  • Received medical coverage for families with children as described in section 1931 of the Social Security Act in at least three of the six month period just before the family became ineligible;
  • Lost eligibility for coverage under section 1931 due to the increased earnings of a family member, loss of earned income exemptions, increased child and or spousal support payments;
  • There must be a child under age 18 in the home; AND
  • Report income when requested by the State
Transitional Medical Assistance Coverage

TMA coverage will be provided by the QUEST plan the household was enrolled in prior to TMA eligibility. The covered services will remain the same as QUEST
