As the healthcare landscape continues to modernize, recent legislation was passed to encourage the adoption of Electronic Healthcare Record (EHR) technology in documenting patient care. The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 included provisions to incentivize use of health information technology, including EHRs and health information exchange, among Medicaid and Medicare providers. Through the Medicare EHR Incentive Program and the Medicaid EHR Incentive Program eligible professionals (EPs) and eligible hospitals (EHs), can receive federally funded incentive payments to adopt, implement, or upgrade (AIU), or meaningfully use (MU) certified EHR technology.
To participate in the Hawaii Medicaid EHR Incentive Program, EPs and EHs must first register on the CMS Registration and Attestation System, also referred to as the National Level Registry (NLR); and then register on the Hawaii State Level Registry (SLR).
The Hawaii Medicaid EHR Incentive Program Provider Manual, Version 2.0 is available here.
The Hawaii Medicaid EHR Incentive Program Provider Outreach Page (POP) is also available and can be accessed here. This resource contains many useful tools including an eligibility calculator; Jump Start page; Program Workbooks for EPs, EHs, and group administrators; FAQs; a link to the NLR; and a link to the Hawaii SLR.
Please visit the POP on a regular basis for updated information regarding the Hawaii Medicaid EHR Incentive Program.
Providers working with the Hawaii Pacific Regional Extension Center (HPREC) should reach out to their provider representative for guidance on how to properly prepare for the Hawaii Medicaid EHR Incentive Program.
